Food For Thought
2022
‘Food For Thought’ was a collaborative, data-driven project concerning the impact of the
food supply chain on global green house gas emissions. The publication provides
information about the carbon footprint of particular ingredients, and aims to encourage
the general population to make better food choices in order to reduce their own carbon “foodprint”.
Throughout the guide, ingredients are directly compared to one another in regards to the
amount of CO2 that is produced for each. Recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner and a drink
were provided as an example of how to incorporate the alternate, lower-impact ingredient
into daily eating habits.
The visual imagery used throughout the publication consisted of a
mix of photography, mark-making and mono-printing.
The amount of carbon dioxide (in KGs) produced by each ingredient was compared
to the equivalent number of car miles driven to produce the same amount.
Pages directly comparing 2 ingredients - 1 higher in G.H.G emissions, and 1 lower in
impact - are cut in half so that the two foods can be easily distinguished from one another.
